Reducing Wildfire Risk and Improving Wildlife Habitat in Santa Cruz County

The Graham Hill Road corridor was identified as a high priority fuel load reduction project due to the importance as an evacuation route and the opportunity to benefit the rare Sand Hills habitat. We have completed over 20 acres of critical work to improve the area through a collaboration with Cal Fire, Henry Cowell State Park, Bonny Doon Fire Safe Council and private landowners with funding from Cal Fire and PG&E. It takes the work of many people, groups and agencies with varying interest coming together to get these projects done.

Habitat Restoration on Zayante Creek

Improvement of critical fish habitat through strategic management and reintroduction of large wood in Zayante Creek.

See how putting wood back into our coastal streams can benefit fish and people while building healthier watersheds. Recently the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County and our many partners completed a multi year stream wood demonstration project along Zayante Creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California.
