The Central California Invasive Weed Symposium (CCIWS) (Thu. 2 Nov, 2017 8:00 am - 5:00 pm)

The Central California Invasive Weed Symposium (CCIWS) is an annual workshop designed to encourage active engagement in the conservation of California wildlands. First held at California State University, Monterey Bay in 1999, this symposium provides a venue to share information about invasive weed control, native plant restoration, and stewardship for Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

It provides an opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded people working (both paid and unpaid) to stop the spread of non-native invasive plants, visit project sites where weed control efforts are in full swing, hear success stories, and earn continuing education units.

CCIWS is a joint effort of the Monterey and Santa Cruz County Weed Management Areas.

Pinto Lake Volunteer Day (Sat. 18 Nov, 2017 9:30 am - 12:00 pm)

Pinto Lake Volunteer Planting Postcard v2 Page 1

Join the Watsonville Wetlands Watch and the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County on Saturday November 18, 2017 at Pinto Lake County Park for a native wetland planting.  We will be planting native plants around a newly created sediment basin that is a part of an important habitat and water quality restoration of Pinto Lake.  This restoration project is designed to slow water flow well as reduce sediment and nutrient accumulation in Pinto Lake.  The native plants we plant today are an important part of function of this wetland and are helping to provide habitat to wildlife species in the area. These native plants have all been collected locally in the Pajaro Valley watershed and grown at the Watsonville Wetlands Watch native plant nursery with students and volunteers and now we need your help to get them planted in the ground!

Come on out on Saturday to learn more about this project and the important work Watsonville Wetlands Watch and the Resource Conservation District are doing to protect and restore important habitat areas like Pinto Lake.

We will meet at the back parking lot in Pinto Lake County Park (near the disc golf course) at 9:30 am and work till 12.  All tools, supplies, and refreshments will be provided. Bring your friends and family! Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information or call (831)566-4938
