Alex is joining the RCD staff for his second term with the Watershed Stewards Program. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2017 with a BS in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, and has been studying the ecology of the Lagunitas Creek watershed in his hometown of Marin County, CA. For two years, he’s worked primarily with the Marin Municipal Water District, conducting year-round biological monitoring surveys for Coho salmon and Steelhead trout, while also tracking the return of river otters to the Bay Area for the River Otter Ecology Project.
After the completion of his term, Alex is hoping to apply for PhD programs for either conservation biology or restoration ecology. He’s hoping that this year will provide him a broader range of expertise in natural resource management and ecosystem-wide conservation. His biggest goal outside of work is to find better ways to compost in his new neighborhood of Aptos.
